A QR code provides a quick way for people to open a website on a phone without manually typing the address. It can be useful on posters, product packaging, business cards, menus and printed instructions.

Begin with the exact website URL you want visitors to open. Use the final HTTPS address whenever possible and check that the page works correctly on a mobile device. A QR code is only useful if the destination itself is accessible.

Generate the QR code and keep enough empty space around it. Avoid placing text, logos or decorative elements too close to the code because they can make scanning more difficult.

Before publishing or printing the QR code, test it with more than one phone or scanning app. Confirm that it opens the intended page and that the URL contains no spelling mistakes or unwanted tracking parameters.

For printed material, make the code large enough to scan from the expected distance and maintain strong contrast between the code and its background.

If the destination URL may change later, consider how you will manage that before printing large quantities. Testing the complete user journey before distribution can prevent costly reprints and broken links.
